A bartender can make as much money as he can stand if he is in the right venue and has skills!

I've owned a small private club for 26 years.
Find a small resturant/club in a decent neighborhood with a longstanding owner. At your age, offer to work summers for dirt cheap. Bust your *** and pay attention. Forget relationships, partying, drinking - become indespensible. Drop in after school and help with whatever is going on. ALWAYS be respectful- do not be a gossip with the hourly help! Each business and business owner has his/her own way of doing things. If all goes well, at some point you may get the opportunity to buy this business- if not you will still gain all the knowledge you need and a great reference.
If you want to work for a big chain, by all means, go to management school. Give it some thought. This is not a get rich quick business. You have to commit. And NEVER date the help or customers!!!!!!!!

Im not sure of how much a bartender in the texas area would make but i live in florida in a college town and am currently a bartender and make really good money around $500-$600 a week working part time.
How much you make depends on the type of estlabishment you work and and who your customers are...if you work at a place with $10 drinks expect to get tipped a little more than a place that sells drinks for $3.
Where i work there are many bar stations and whichever barstation you are working at you and that person split up the tips 50/50
Shifts can range from getting there 2 or 3 hours before opening to staying until 2 to 3 hours after closing.
School isnt nessacary if you find a place that is willing to throw you in there and let you learn on your own (which i think is the best way)
and youc an never really tell how much you will make a night because it always differs

It really depends on where you're working and what you look like.
When I was bartending, I worked 5 nights a week and was making about $60K a year. I knew gals working in gay bars that were making $80K plus. SOme more by having tips under the table.
It's good money if your get into a good place.
Local bars you'll probably make in the $30-$40K range
